Brown Skin Brunchin’ Honors Houston “Women Making Their Mark” in Collaboration with Maker’s Mark® and Black Excellence Society
The nationally-recognized global women’s organization, Brown Skin Brunchin’, joined together with Maker’s Mark and the Black Excellence Society on Saturday, March 26, 2023 to honor "Women Making Their Mark" at Trez Bistro and Wine Bar in Houston, TX. Sponsored by Maker’s Mark® in collaboration with the Black Excellence Society, the curated private event featured a crafted brunch menu, signature cocktails and gift bags provided by Brown Skin Brunchin’ partners Taliah Waajid and Maker’s Mark.
Among the event’s influential Houston-based honorees receiving awards were Trez Bistro Managing Partner, Shawntell McWilliams, Mayoral Candidate, Amanda Edwards, Fox 26 News Anchor, Chelsea Edwards, and Founder of Lamik Beauty, Kim Roxie. Each of these exceptional women were recognized for their work to carve out pathways for women of color in their community, and their demonstration of excellence in pursuing their dreams. In the true spirit of Women’s History Month, knowledge was shared, conversations were flowing and everyone made it a mission to enjoy a room full of talented movers and shakers.
The program began with a welcome statement by Black Excellence Society Houston Chapter Lead, Jasmine Stanley and CEO of The Omni Firm, Crystal Willis, to thank all sponsors, honor media guests, and introduce the Co-Founders of Brown Skin Brunchin’, Lillian Jackson and Melissa Mason. The childhood best friends spoke to the origin and mission of BSB, how the company plans to use its app and community to expand the impact of the organization, and alluded to plans to create even more collaborations in the future. Just as the bold and courageous women of history sought to break through glass ceilings to ensure opportunities for women of color, these affluent women gathered to celebrate as they continue to make an impact across industries.
Several other esteemed guests were in attendance including Ashley and Corey Haynes, Co-Founders of 2LOUD Magazine, Brand Strategist and Founder of The Our Foundation, Jade Tinner, and Black Excellence Society Chief of Staff, Orlando Hopson, who led guests in a traditional (bes) toast to black excellence. Pink floral centerpieces were provided by Anita Thomas of Fleur Jolie Designs, and music by DJ Marz.
