Masego Brings His Favorite Tings to Houston
Thank You Joe Budden. This might sound like an odd way to start discussing Masego but bear with us.
We walked to the entrance of Houston’s Warehouse Live amidst a sold out crowd of eager fans waiting in a line that wrapped around the building. As we entered the venue people jostled their way through the throng of excited couples and groups of girl friends trying to get as close to the stage as possible.
The lights went dark following a 15 minute setup/intermisison and then the mezmerizing chant of “I love you, i love you, i love you” eminated from the speakers as Masego virtually moonwalked onto the stage and melted right into performing Navajo. Starting the show with an upbeat almost trance inducing vibe.
I don’t believe in giving the order of an artist’s set list because i think it takes something away from the whole organic-ness of the concert experience but he did hit all of my personal favorites including in no particular order Good & Plenty, Tadow, Yamz, Garden Party, Old Age & Queen Tings. And of course Sego, being the multi-instrumentalist that he is, serenaded us with the Sax, allowed his fingers to dance across a couple of electronic keyboards and guitar.
When he performed my favorite song and the one that introduced me to MASEGO, Mystery Lady, my vibe level hit a solid 10 on a scale of 1-10.
Now, you’ve read this far and I’m sure you’re still tryng to figure out how Joe Budden factors into all of this. 3 years ago I was listeng to the Joe Budden podcast and someone asked him what he did over the weekend, he said he had just been kicking it at his crib and had a new song that he heard that was stuck in his head and was on constant repeat. He then played a snippet of Mystery Lady and I’ve been a fan ever since. So again, Thank You Joe Budden.
Opener: The concert opened with a soulful yet playful set by Los Angeles-based Nigerian-American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Ogi (@arealogi). Her buttery smooth harmonies put the crowd in the palm of her hand with the first note and that’s where she kept them.
Unfiltered Thoughts?
Why is he wearing that durag?
this would have been a better show if his look and the set matched the vibe of the music
