A special event is being done by the MTV network in an effort to spark conversation on American race relations. Throughout the 12-hour block, clips titled #The Talk will be shown in each commercial break and will feature commentary on race from notable members of current pop culture including Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Common, Rick Ross, Ava DuVernay. #TheTalk is part of the bigger movement called the Look Different campaign which covers talks about bias in various minority communities such as sexuality. MTV President said in a statement:
“Millennials believe strongly in fairness, but they can also find it difficult to talk openly about race – to be not simply ‘color blind’ but ‘color brave. Our audience is looking for a way to bring the national conversation on race into their homes and this campaign will give them a forum to express true color bravery.”
For the entire 12 hour period, MTV will be cast in classic black and white screening. The programming begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 9 p.m. EST. Check out the trailer below and be sure to watch MTV today.
