The Motivated Mom Tour Super Mom Super Bowl LI Luncheon Edition

HOUSTON, TX, February 10, 2017—The Motivated Mom Tour Super Mom Super Bowl LI Luncheon Edition, powered by Prudential Financial, Inc., and supported by corporate partners Hilton Worldwide, Coca-Cola and BET Centric, scored a touchdown! in Houston, TX this past Super Bowl LI.  Over 100 attendees including moms, entrepreneurs and media professionals enjoyed a full afternoon of empowered networking at the chic red carpet event held at the Hess Club in the beautiful and bustling Galleria area.

Motivated mom Latoyia Dennis had the pleasure of hosting Johnette Patton (Usher Raymond’s mother), Crystal Wilson (Shanice’s mother), Rose Rock (Chris and Tony Rocks mother), Tyra Wardlow (Meagan Good’s mother), and Michele Thornton as the moderator on a panel geared towards women empowerment.

Women, but mothers in particular, are consumed by their kids, and tending to everyone else’s needs above their own. These moms said not today! It’s time to shift your thinking to self-restoration, and start living your BEST life! Yesss to that! A quote that resonated with me during the panel discussion was when Rose Rock, said “It’s never too late to start living your life! I’m 68, and my life isn’t over!” This really stayed with me because we all start some kind of life project that we feel isn’t quite where we want it to be, but hearing her say that gives me hope that it can get to my level of expectation.

There were all kinds of golden nuggets of information dropped throughout the evening. I really left feeling empowered and motivated to get started!

Doughbeezy Recovering From An Attempted Home Invasion

One of Houston’s hardest rappers became the victim of a home invasion Tuesday night at friend’s home in the Heights. After being pistol-whipped and nearly kidnapped in his own car, Doughbeezy was able to break free of the two suspects, retrieve his weapon from the trunk the vehicle and fatally shoot one of the suspects.  Beezy gave fans an update on his condition via Instagram via this picture and caption.

My life was almost taken from me last night. Nothing or no one but God was watching over me, I’m suppose to be dead. When the gunman got instructed to shoot me, he froze. When they tried to kidnap me in my own car, I was able to fight my way out the car before being pistol whipped. After being pistol whipped, my friend and her family pulled up and we all got instructed to go in the house and that’s when God made a way for to break loose and make it back to my trunk for my pistol. If I never was able to break away for my trunk, I wouldn’t be here today telling you this story. Stop and take a second to thank God for very thing you have. And when you’re done, take a moment to tell your family and the people close to you that you love them. My daughter will be born in a week and if it wasn’t for God, I wouldn’t be here to see her to see her take her first breath. #Blessed

Beezy is asking for privacy at this time and has made no further plans to discuss the situation. Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Killa Kyleon and many other rappers and friends from around the city sent their well wishes to the young lyricist. We’re wishing Doughbeezy a speedy recovery and sending our prayers to the family involved in this traumatic incident. Watch the news video below to learn more on what happened.

Space City Beat Battle XVIII

The Space City Beat Battle (SCBB) returns for it’s eighteenth iteration on November 15th at Warehouse Live in Downtown.  Fresh off a major showcase in Atlanta, Georgia at the A3C Hip-Hop Festival (largest hip-hop festival in the US), this phenomenon has paved the way for emerging music producers and beat makers.  While participating at this major event, they represented for Houston amongst the most influential in the nation.  It is very awe inspiring to know that our city is thriving on the outside.

SCBB began in 2010 to provide a stage for music makers that normally don’t get the same shine as rappers and singers that can’t operate without their sound creations.  Each event also serves as a power-networking mixer for the local entertainment scene, which is one of the reasons for it’s continued success.

The event consists of a round robin style competition of prepared instrumentals in which each producer must play their best beats or risk getting cut.  The victor gets a prize pack consisting of various gifts from clothing to music equipment.

Celebrity guest producers and local luminaries serve as judges to choose who moves on to the next round and eventually the championship battle.  Major industry heavyweights have been involved with SCBB including Scarface (Geto Boys, Def Jam South), DJ Scratch (EPMD, Busta Rhymes), S1 (produced Power for Kayne West, Won a Grammy with Beyonce, Jay Z), Focus… (Marsha Ambrosius, Dr. Dre), Ski Beatz (Jay-Z, Currency), !llMind (Kanye, Jay Z), Denaun Porter (Eminem, D12) and guest appearances from Paul Wall and Bun B to say the least.

The brand is preparing for it’s fifth year by kicking off it’s philanthropic effort titled, BEAT Cancer, which will fundraise to combat childhood cancer.  Soon after that the SCBB crew will be preparing for it’s third year as an official showcase at the vast South By Southwest Music Festival in March held in Austin, Texas.

The level of talent in Houston is tremendous and the Space City Beat Battle continues to showcase the multitude.  Though it remains a very niche event, beat battles have been around for many, many years as a sort of hip-hop sub-genre.  This episode features special guest judges The ARE, who has produced for LL Cool J, Keyshia Cole, Earth, Wind and Fire plus Nicki Minaj; rap artist Mr. Wired Up (Rap artist, songwriter, CEO of TRP Records, #stripclubjunkie); and veteran deejay/producer DJ Cozmos (Veteran DJ and Producer, 1/3 of Radio Galaxy, The Hue).
