Missy Elliot’s Digital Music Purchases Skyrocket After Superbowl Appearance

Missy Elliott’s surprise guest appearance at Super Bowl XLIX put her back  on the map. After the she stole the halftime show, Missy’s digital catalog blew up and put the the rapper on top of iTunes and Spotify charts. Within hours of the performance, streams of the three hits she performed increased significantly; ‘Lose Control’ surged to 1396%, ‘Get Ur Freak On’ up 922%, and ‘Work It’ up 896%. Overall, her streams on Spotify surged 676% and she managed to take the fourth, fifth and ninth slots on the iTunes singles chart. Missy was overwhelmed by the love she received and tweeted out to old and new fans thanking them for support:

Missy Elliott  released her last album, The Cookbook, 10 years ago and has remained pretty quiet over the years, working only behind the careers of her own artists. Lenny Kravitz and Katy Perry’s digital sales increased as well, but not half as much as Missy’s. It’s safe to say she is very well missed in the music world and fans long for her return to the scene. Missy was the real MVP of Super Bowl XLIX.
