The Justice Department decided earlier this week that they will not indict Darren Wilson, the Ferguson police officer who shot and killed Mike Brown. A press conference held Thursday by the family of Mike Brown revealed that the family will file a civil lawsuit against the city of Ferguson. All of this comes upon the news of recent reports finding Ferguson police to be racially biased and specifically targeting Black citizens. The Brown family is currently building their case against the Ferguson police and Darren Wilson for their part in the death of their son in August of 2014 and released the following statement regarding the case:
“We realize that the burden of proof for the federal and state investigations is far different than the burden of proof in a civil case that we anticipate bringing on behalf of the family in a wrongful death case and we do want to announce today are officially in a process of formulating a civil case that we anticipate will be filed very shortly on behalf of the family. In our case we plan to show and outline pretty much the same evidence, how ever you will get a clearer and more accurate picture of what took place that day.”
No additional information has been released in regards to the lawsuit.
