Ava DuVernay Will Direct Film Based On Hurricane Katrina

Director of the critically-acclaimed film Selma, Ava DuVernay, is ready to begin a new project and create magic again. She is teaming up with the star of Selma, David Oyelowo, to create a film that shares a love story and murder mystery during the time Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. The film will be done in collaboration with Participant Media serving as executive producers, DuVernay taking on the writing, directing, and producting, and David Oyelowo will co-produce and star in the project. DuVernay shared about the project, “The story we’re interested in will explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos, while also examining the chaos itself. I’m looking forward to the journey.” No start date or film titled has been released as of yet, but we’re sure something great is in the works.
