Mastermind and founder of the A$AP Worldwide collective, A$AP Yams has passed at the young age of 26. Born Steven Rodriguez, Yams struggled with drug abuse in the past with his addiction to Xanax and codeine. He went to rehab in July of 2014 to get help for his addiction but his last tweet on January 16th, ‘Bodeine Brazy,’ showed he fell back into his abuse. Yams was the driving force behind the collective of rappers, producers and fashion designers in the A$AP clan and made many of the business decisions. He helped launch the careers of his friends A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg. Friends in hip-hop showed their love and gave condolences to the A$AP family via social media. RCA Records, the label Yams signed to, expressed their condolences in this brief statement:
“All of us at RCA Records are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of A$AP Yams. As one of the creative forces behind A$AP Worldwide, Yams’ vision, humor and dedication to the members of A$AP Mob will always be remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
